29.03.2025 2025 AGF Plovdiv Championships Bulgaria

On 29.03.2025 was held American Grappling Federation Plovdiv Championships Bulgaria. our team participated with two competitors
Mike Iliev – champion No Gi Juveniles / Adults / Male / Juvenile / White / Middle (Up to 86.20 kg)
Boris Bibov – vice-champion No Gi Kids / Boys / Teen (14 – 15 yrs) / White / Heavy I (Up to 72.60 kg)
The team for this competition was led from Coach Sevastiyan and Iliyana Kostova, thanks to Cvetelina Georgieva and Blagovest Georgiev for coming to support the competitors.

We have been on many competitions, some more organized than others, but we have never been on over organized-competition as this one:
– Many teams as ours, who traveled outside Plovdiv, had to wake up at 5 AM in order to get there for registration at 8 AM. However, there is only one official doing registration, and kids go with priority without waiting. This is understandable, but annoying. Our team had 10 people on the que for the registration in front of us, but had 3 times by 30 kids passing with priority, finally got registered about 9:10 AM and then our first match was 9:30 AM. Not speaking that in between registration and first match we had to weight another que for the weight ins.
+ Solution: you can not have only one official doing registration of 300 competitors. You need to put there at least four, and combine registration and weight ins on one station. Not allowing enough warmup time for young competitors is predisposition for injury
+ other solution: announce kids registration from 8 to 9, so the others know to come at 9 and not to be out ordered 90 times on the que.
– you were collecting 10 leva fee for each parent in the morning, additionally slowing down already annoying registration. While we understand it is American thing and we “can’t blame a man for making a buck”, in the afternoon the entry was all free.
+ Solution: either put at least 4 officials to do registrations and entries for everyone, either don’t milk parents who drive to watch their kids compete. Otherwise, it feels disrespectful for the ones who pay.
– You are doing competition in the middle of Bulgaria in Plovdiv, and all the announcing was done in English, while most if not all competitors are Bulgarian kids.
+ Solution: We all know that all indigenous tribes, extraterrestrials and dead spirits speak English in the American movies, but in the middle of Bulgaria you can get at least one Bulgarian speaking announcer, only if you look around. It will be easier for the kids, and way more respectful for our country and culture.
